# Adding and Disabling Mods

*Applies to: Stardew Valley 1.6.15+ Last reviewed: 2026-10-02*

These changes can stay in place when the collection updates.

Changing settings in Vortex? See [Adjusting Configurations](/svVe/customize/adjusting-configurations.md).

{% hint style="info" %}
Always read the mod page before adding or disabling any mod. In Vortex, right-click the mod in the Mods tab to Open on Nexus Mods. Mod pages contain crucial information about compatibility, conflicts, and requirements.
{% endhint %}

Disabling a required mod can warn that your loadout no longer matches the collection. Most mods in these collections are marked as required. The warning does not stop you from playing.

## Understanding Mod Conflicts

Most mods on Nexus will mention on their mod page if they have a known conflict with other major mods (especially Stardew Valley Expanded). When adding mods:

* Read the mod page for known incompatibilities.
* Check for similar functionality. Adding any mod that does something similar to an existing mod (like managing time, or replacing portraits) means the existing mod in the collection should be disabled or configured carefully to not include the same content.
* Vortex may alert you if a required mod is disabled. You should still be able to deploy and play, but [Check Your SMAPI Log](/svVe/troubleshooting/your-smapi-log.md) if you encounter issues.
* Test thoroughly and be prepared to disable or apply a load order rule to conflicting mods as necessary.
